This is a utilitarian antique Salt Glazed Bean Crock in AS IS condition, missing its lid. It has some faults from original manufacture: There is a small Turkey Splat kind of spot, and there are places, especially around the rim where Glaze Creep has left gaps between lines of glaze. It has some faults from years of use: It has surface marks and nicks from being knocked around, and a hairline crack which I touched up with thin "running glue". It also has mineralization inside from year(s) of use on top of a wood stove as a winter humidifier. This wood stove application is the ideal use for it. It is unmarked as to maker. It has a yellow clay body, the Ohio type clay color. I like its shape and the incised groove decorating the shoulder. This is the crock only, no lid. Dimensions are 6 1/2" Tall x 6 1/2" Diameter. The top opening measures 4 1/4"so a lid would have to be about 4 1/2" to larger than 4 1/4" and smaller than the 4 3/4" rim. Of course it does not need a lid to evaporate water.
