Vintage Wood + Porcelain Humidor with Brass Plate And Clip-In Humidifier - c. 1930. Nice old walnut-veneer humidor lined with porcelain (possibly milk glass) and featuring a zinc-plated humidifier to keep smoking materials moist. The absorbent clay material may need to be refreshed or replaced to keep items fresh. The brass plate can be engraved. No key for the lock. There are some cosmetic issues with the exterior. A small piece of the wood veneer is missing from the lid. The shellac is failing in a few places, creating a crazing effect. The bottom appears to have once had some kind of black paper or other finish, much of which has flaked away. I can send the box with a new piece of brown felt for the bottom if you like. No maker’s mark or indication of origin, but similar humidors were made by the Pattberg Novelty Corp. of New York City. The company was founded in 1859 and appears in several business and governmental registries into the 1950s.
